whatever happened to Christmas caroling??

Did I grow up in a bubble? Or, did Christmas caroling die in the early nineties? Or, do people still do this?

Did any of you go Christmas caroling as a child? Or, do you to this day????

Sarah may correct me, but I THINK we did it when we were younger, usually with a church group and as a way to encourage shut-ins. The youth group from the church we go to now does it, as well, for similar reasons. It is a sadly lost art...that should not be.

We didn't Christmas carol.. although, I almost cried when we had a group come carol to us last Christmas, it was special. Although, sadly enough, I think they might have been from the Mormon church.
Are you suggesting we head out caroling this winter? Hey, name a time and a place.. we'll be there!

Our family went out last year with friends. We are going around our neighborhood this year for the first time.

I caroled a lot, too, growing up. Maybe it was popular in St. Louis back then, as I haven't caroled in the last 20 years. Nor has anyone caroled to me. (Is this a valid verb?) I think about it, though. I'd love to go around my street with our family, but I'm afraid Chris and I would tire of the duet. The kids would probably just stare at the neighbors' faces, sort of how they stare at the T.V! I'm making mental notes for about 5 years from now.

Love ya! Lori

Hi Jenna! Recently discovered your blog -- I think we go to the same church :-) I had to comment b/c I was thinking the EXACT same thing a couple days ago. I think it's sad that such a wonderful way to bless people seems to be slowly becoming extinct. I was thinking of going caroling by myself, but that might just be weird. And creepy.

Cheers!

My dad was a choir director, so in his early years he'd take the choir our caroling at Christmas time. I remember attempting to do it as a kid with my neighbor friends, too.

I think Campus Outreach still does it, and they usually hit the pastor's houses.

My high school Madrigal choir went caroling every Christmas. That's the only time I've gone. It would be fun to go with several families.
